Catholic Charities West Virginia has announced the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley (CFOV) as the recipient of the 2025 Charity in Action Award. This award is given to individuals and organizations that show a strong commitment to service and partnership, significantly impacting communities.
“Charity is love in action. We seek organizations that truly reflect that love for our neighbors, and CFOV exemplifies this. Their impact spans from human services and health to recreation, disaster response, and supporting first responders,” stated Mark Phillips, CCWVa CEO.
Since its establishment in 1972, CFOV has been a significant philanthropic presence in the Upper Ohio Valley. The foundation manages assets worth $75 million and has distributed over $30 million in grants and scholarships since its inception. In the past fiscal year alone, it contributed more than $3 million to local organizations and initiatives.
“We extend our heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to the Community Foundation for their dedicated service to our community,” said Katie Klug, CCWVa Chief Mission Officer. “By fostering a spirit of generosity and collaboration, CFOV not only provides essential financial support to local organizations but also inspires individuals to take an active role in shaping the future of their community.”
The Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley will be honored at CCWVa's 15th Annual Hope Gala on March 1 at Wheeling Park's White Palace in Wheeling, West Virginia. The event will highlight hope while recognizing those committed to improving lives in Wheeling and nearby areas.
The gala promises an evening filled with dinner, drinks, dancing, and celebration. Tickets are priced at $125 per person and are available for purchase online at www.ccwva.org/event/gala.
Proceeds from the event will support CCWVa’s programs and services across northern West Virginia.
