Sorority Prepares Holiday Meal for YWCA Residents

West Liberty University’s sorority, Beta Rho Epsilon, shared the holiday spirit recently as WLU students prepared and assisted with a Thanksgiving meal for the women and children currently staying at the YWCA Wheeling.

“Beta Rho Epsilon enjoys giving back to the YWCA through fundraisers and volunteer hours, but the choice to provide the YWCA with a Thanksgiving meal this year was something we planned as a way to give back and interact with the families at the YWCA,” said BPE President Brianna Hamon.

“As a sisterhood, we value empowerment because it creates a network for friendship and support on and off campus. We believe that by inspiring excellence, we will encourage the community to rise above. We are happy to give back to our community.”

Chapter members met with the women and children and provided a full Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings.

The sorority partners with the YWCA frequently throughout the year in different capacities.

Its values align with the mission of the YWCA to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, help families and strengthen our community.

The organization offers programming for family violence prevention, cultural diversity and community outreach, residence and emergency homeless sheltering, human trafficking victims and non-treatment recovery.

YWCA Wheeling is an active member agency of the United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley. For complete information, visit www.ywcawheeling.org.

Beta Rho Epsilon is just one of several Greek organizations on campus. The national sororities and fraternities include Chi Omega, Alpha Xi Delta, Phi Delta Theta and Theta Xi. The remaining organizations are local sororities and fraternities, including the sororities Delta Theta Kappa, Lambda Psi Sigma and Beta Rho Epsilon. Fraternities on campus are Chi Nu, Kappa Delta Kappa, and Beta Theta Gamma (co-ed).

About 200 students pay dues and belong, according to Director of Student Activities Kate Billings, who oversees Greek Life on campus.
