Wheeling University continues to be recognized as one of the best institutions of higher learning in West Virginia and the United States by national ranking services.
In its recent rankings, Niche reviewed 25 institutions in the state and named Wheeling the second Best College in West Virginia. Additionally, in its rankings of the Best Catholic Colleges across the United States, Niche chose Wheeling the 44th best in the country out of the 200-plus schools it reviewed.

In its rankings for Best Colleges in West Virginia, Niche named Wheeling the second best – only the state’s largest institution, WVU, received a higher placement. Additionally, Niche placed Wheeling University among the Best Catholic Colleges in the country. The University’s 44th ranking is the highest among colleges in the Ohio Valley.
Niche gave Wheeling an overall grade of B+. The ranking service awarded the University an A- in Diversity and Value, with the faculty, student life and safety on campus receiving a B+. The online ranking service also named the University the second Best Value College in West Virginia and ranked Wheeling in the top 19 percent for value among national universities.

Niche.com, an online rankings and review site founded in 2002, explores colleges and universities to determine which institutions are the best based on a variety of factors. Niche uses data from the U.S. Department of Education, as well as reviews from students and alumni, to rigorously analyze and rank colleges and universities.
“Niche’s comprehensive approach to ranking institutions gives students and parents a very clear snapshot of what Wheeling University has to offer. Its grading system shows what sets our institutions a part from others in our state – we make providing students rigorous, faith-based education our top priority,” the president added.
This academic year, the University and its academic programs have received high rankings from U.S. News & World Report, registerednursing.org and Nursing Almanac.
