Stone Pear Pavilion was identified as the second largest nursing home in Hancock County during the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.
The facility offered 60 beds—17 fewer than the Hancock County average during that quarter—and served an average of 56.6 residents across the period.
The nursing home earned an overall CMS rating of 4 out of 5, exceeding the statewide West Virginia average of 2.9 for nursing homes.
Weirton Geriatric Center led the county in size with 137 beds in the quarter. Weirton Medical Center had the third highest capacity at 33 beds.
Stone Pear Pavilion reported zero incidents involving fines or penalties by the quarter’s end.

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates the country’s older adult population is rising, while the population of children is shrinking. From 2020 to 2024, the American population aged 65 and older rose 13%, and people younger than 18 declined 1.7%. Since 1920, the older adult population has expanded dramatically, from 4.9 million to more than 61 million people by 2024.
A study released in 2021 estimates almost half of older adults—about 28 million—may need long-term services and support, and more than a third could eventually require nursing home assistance.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
