Catholic Charities West Virginia has received a $2,000 grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to support its efforts in addressing hunger in the community. The grant, part of the Nourishing our Neighbors initiative, aims to help local residents gain better access to nutritious food and provide nutrition education to reduce health risks linked to food insecurity.

Ashlie Kotson, Northern Regional Director at Catholic Charities West Virginia, said, “When people come into the food pantry at St. Ursula’s, they find more than groceries. They are met with kindness and compassion, and this funding will serve to further that spirit of community through feeding our neighbors.”

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation was established in 2001 and supports organizations working to alleviate hunger within its 10-state service area. Since its founding, it has distributed over $23 million in grants for programs focused on providing fresh food and supporting long-term solutions for hunger relief. The foundation partners with Feeding America and other local agencies across the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic United States. More information about their work can be found at https://www.foodlion.com/pages/food-lion-feeds/.

Food Lion operates more than 1,100 stores with over 82,000 employees throughout 10 states in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. The company’s hunger relief platform, Food Lion Feeds, has donated more than 1.5 billion meals since 2014 and aims to reach a total of 3 billion meals by 2032.
