Cameron Healthcare Center ranked as the second largest nursing home in Marshall County during the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The facility had 60 beds available, 35 fewer than the Marshall County average for nursing homes in the period. It cared for an average of 54.2 residents per day throughout the quarter.

The center received an overall CMS rating of 3 out of 5, surpassing the West Virginia nursing home average of 2.9.

For the quarter, Moundsville Healthcare Center was the largest in the county, offering 129 beds.

By the end of Q1 2026, Cameron Healthcare Center faced one penalty and paid one fine, totaling $131,164.

Marshall County, West Virginia, had two for-profit nursing homes in total.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate that the older adult population nationwide is rising while younger groups are declining. Between 2020 and 2024, the population of Americans 65 and older increased by 13%, as the under-18 group decreased by 1.7%. Over the past century, the country’s older adult segment expanded significantly, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 analysis estimated nearly half of Americans in this age category—about 28 million—may need long-term services and supports. The study also forecasts that more than a third could eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
